"When we signed Coolio to do the film, the first thing we did was create
an ambience in his office that would best reflect him as the "administrator
formerly known as Prince," said Blanchard. "We wanted to create an office
with a lot of gizmos and gadgets." The office, which was created on a
sound stage, had a Jacuzzi tub, television-monitoring system linked to
the girls locker room, a margarita machine and a collection of
disciplinary tools hanging on the wall.
In addition, the film also spoofed a few of the classic films from the
past. There is a Greased Lighting ("Grease") sequence and a scene where
a vintage Chevy a.k.a. "Christine," driven by the killer, is about to
run one of the students over in auto class, just prior to being pulled
over by a motorcycle cop.
Once the production had its director, the next step was to go out and
find the students. One of the first to be cast was Majandra Delfino.
For Delfino, the movie gave her an opportunity to vent her frustrations
on the teen targeted high school series that now populates the airways.
"I hate shows like ‘Dawson’s Creek’ or ‘90210,’ so to have an opportunity
to spoof them is pretty wild," said Delfino, who can be seen on her own
upcoming show "Roswell High." "My character is Martina. You could call
her the Martina Navratalova of Bulimia Falls High School. The female
jock who is pretty in a dykish sort of way. But I do sort of fall for
Dawson," she concluded.
Harley Cross brings to life the character of Dawson. The new kid on
the block, he fits right in with the hip Bulimia Falls clique. But
later in the film we learn about his shaky past. "My character is like
an all American type of kid," said Cross. "Like Dawson from ‘Dawson’s
Creek.’ But you learn my parents were found bludgeoned in my house and
I was a prime suspect. And though I was found not guilty, it didn’t
stop Hagitha Utslay from writing a best selling book ‘Dawson is a
Murderer." Cross counts among his many credits "Stanley & Iris," "A
Soldier’s Daughter," "Perdito Durango" and a regular stint on the
television series "Sister Kate."
And what would a high school spoof be without your dumb jock? Meet Slab,
your basic, "I got through high school but couldn’t tell you how to spell
my name," meathead, played so brilliantly by ex MTV V.J. Simon Rex.
Rex can currently be seen as a recurring character on the popular WB
series "Felicity."
