Then there is Boner, who couldn’t lose his virginity at a Lilith Fair
concert if he brought a hooker as his date. Played by Danny Strong who
admits, "the character was written based on my life," he somehow messes
up every opportunity he gets to get laid. Strong was recently seen in
the hit "Pleasantville." In addition, he can be seen on a recurring
basis on the popular TV shows "Clueless" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
And of course we have the dizzy blonde and local "Kielbasa Queen"
Barbara, played by Julie Benz. Benz has a regular role on the CBS
series "Payne" along with a recurring role on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer,"
and "All My Children." Her feature film credits include "Jawbreaker,"
"As Good As It Gets," "Inventing the Abbotts" and "Black Sheep."
But the pivotal role of the film, Empty-V tabloid reporter Hagitha Utslay,
went to Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, best known for her role of
‘Valerie Malone’ on Beverly Hills 90210.
Says Blanchard, "Tiffani is an incredible actress who lights up the
screen. She has a certain grace and elegance to her which plays a
nice counterpart to Arnold." Prior to her stint on 90210, Thiessen
starred on the popular kids Saturday morning show "Saved By the Bell."
Her film credits include "Son in Law," and the up-coming releases
"Blood Money" and "Love Stinks."
Thiessen came to the project because the script cracked her up.
"I thought the script was hysterical," said Thiessen. "My character
is this slutty (hence Utslay which is pig Latin for slut) reporter who
leaches on to Doughy and somehow tries to get to the bottom of the case.
I think it is fun to be on both sides of the spoof; after all, I am
sort of spoofing myself."
When it came to casting the cameos ,Nemeth and Blanchard wanted to
fill the additional parts with character actors that audiences would
relate too. For Nurse Kavorkian, they went out and got America’s
favorite mother, Shirley Jones. For the character of the swimming
coach Mr. Hasselhoff, the production brought in Artie Lange. In
addition there are also cameos by Jimmy "JJ" Walker as the pimp,
Mink Stole as Madame La Tourneau and Rose Marie as Mrs. Tingle.
With so many zany characters and a freewheeling story, production of
the film was bound to get wild and crazy. As Blanchard noted:
"Everyday I thought I was going to school. You never knew what was
going to happen."
Eight months after the conception, "I Know What You Screamed Last Summer"
wrapped principal photography.
